Engine operating conditions are more arduous than ever: smaller sumps, increased power densities, higher temperatures, and longer drain intervals—all of which can cause harmful oxidation. BLU Technician Series Engine Lubricants use advanced additive systems and full-synthetic base stocks to prevent oxidation and extend engine life. BLU engine lubricants also promote fuel economy and help reduce emissions.

Oxidation is the scourge of engine lubricants. For every 10-degree rise in temperature, the rate of oxidation doubles, and today’s engines run hotter than ever; for example the gas discharged by turbochargers may be more than 170°C / 338°F. Oxidation causes lubricant to thicken and form insoluble sludge or soot. Thicker lubricant robs engine efficiency, and soot causes engine wear and shortens life. Oxidation also produces organic acids that corrode non-ferrous metals in bearings and other parts. Finally, oxidation creates polymers that not only thicken the lubricant but also plate out as gum or varnish.

Oxidation is made worse by bio-fuels (e.g., ethanol) and other ultra-low-sulfur fuels; in addition, many additives that inhibit oxidation are not compatible with after-treatment systems (catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters, etc). BLU Technician Series Engine Lubricants are specially formulated to overcome all of these problems and meet a wide range of industry and OEM specifications.
